Fun & interesting things to do whilst in Isolation

Updated: Jun 25, 2020

Crazy to think that my first blog back is during this crazy time we're in. Firstly I just want to hope that everyone reading this is in good health and is staying safe. I know that for some of us, it's not just the virus we have to be scared of but loss of jobs, keeping a routine, or just being alone with our thoughts.

I am most definitely not taking the situation lightly but wanted to bring something of value to you, by providing you with some fun activities (not just drinking) to do that you may not have thought of yet:

1. Create themed meals (parties/video party)

Now of course baking and cooking is a great way to pass the time and also fill your tummy, but if you want to take it a level higher why not create a fun theme around your food. One weekend you could make it tropical, make fruit punches, create a summery dish, and invite your family members to dress up. You can even decorate a room to fit the vibe, include some music and BAM instant holiday mode! If you're at home alone, invite all your friends to a video chat and make everyone dress up and participate with you.

2. Tik Tok

I know what you're thinking, but hear me out. If you still haven't got around to the trending app Tik Tok because you think it's a waste of time or it's cringey....I'm not going to lie, it's most definitely both of that. That's what makes it so great though, this app is made for being weird on, to test out your acting skills, to lipsync, dance to trending songs, and to spend hours watching funny videos.

If you are sick of watching Netflix, I highly recommend just downloading it and giving it a chance, you'll become addicted before you know it- welcome to the club! Check out mine!

3. Sign up for a free online course

If you're more of a person that likes to be productive with all this free time, why not enrol in a free online class? You can quite literally google "free online classes" and plenty of sites will come up, or head to 'Future Learn' to browse the hundreds of different courses and degrees you can complete online. You can even take part in Harry Potter themed classes, yes that's correct...Harry Potter classes!

You'll be learning a new skill and making a good use of your time!

4. Dance to your heart's content!

This is one I like to incorporate daily, it gets me up and moving and not to mention it's just so damn fun to do! My go to playlist is the Noughties Playlist on spotify (there are plenty of playlists under this name and they are all great), or sometimes I'll head over to youtube and put on a dance workout or tutorial. You work up a sweat, and trust me when I say you'll feel so much happier after a bit of dancing.

5.Do that one thing or skill you've always wanted to do or learn

Ok so this one is very broad, but this can literally apply to anything. What is that one thing that you always put off because you didn't have time or you didn't get around to finishing? It could be anything from learning how to rollerblade, start a youtube channel, learn a language, finishing that 1,000 page book, or even like me....cleaning how your makeup and bedside drawers.

6. Write (or type) your thoughts down

Now this is another one I have been doing a lot, I enjoy writing and creating my blog content but the last few months work and other things have been placed higher on my list so my content fell right behind. So finally I'm getting some quiet moments to sit down and reflect, and to get back into the practice of it again.

It doesn't always mean you have to sit down and write an essay length post or short story, but sometimes I'll just come across a nice piece of poetry or a quote on social media to save for later.

7. Make a blanket/pillow fort and have a movie or tv show marathon

This is probably one you've already done, or you're probably sick of watching Netflix by this stage. But if you haven't put the two together you're missing out my friend! Relive your childhood and create one giant pillow fort, decked out with fairy lights, snacks, board games, and of course a well placed tv or laptop for movies.

8. Get moving

I know I've been slack with motivating myself to be active lately, even with all this free time but sometimes I just don't feel like going for a walk or a run. That's where workout apps and free workout Youtube channels come in handy. Even just a 10 minute ab workout has me feeling the burn and makes me feel like I'm doing something.

9. Get creative with your room interior

This is the perfect time to re-decorate and re-arrange things in your bedroom to create a new vibe. There are so many creative videos on youtube to show you how to create DIY pieces or how to make use of a small room. If you want to get really creative, having a feature in your room is one great way to change the mood of the room.

10. Pamper Yourself

With everything that is going on stress can come into your life and reek even more havoc...especially on your skin and health. That's why it's so important to remember to take care of yourself throughout, this can be done by either just drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep, or setting up a bubble bath with face masks and some chocolate to indulge in. However you like to pamper yourself, set some time aside to make sure you treat yourself to some 'me time' every once in awhile (or everyday if you like). I'm currently loving the products from James Cosmetics and Shhh Glamour to make my skin really glow!

11. Get yourself a green thumb

By green thumb I don't mean contracting some weird disease, but rather head out to your backyard (or balcony) and start a DIY veggie patch or simply get rid of some weeds. Even the smallest changes in a garden can make all the difference. The feeling of growing your own produce is the best satisfaction.

12. Belt out some tunes with Karaoke

It's the perfect time to whip out the singstar or to hop on youtube and search up your favourite song. If you want to make it easier to find the perfect karaoke playlist Lucky Voice currently has a month's free subscription, enter code LUCKY20 then turn the volume up (or down, depending on everyone's talent).

13. Welcome back to the world of Sims and Club Penguin

Ok, so I do have to admit I couldn't really remember why I spent so many hours a day on these games, but logging back in all the memories of creating my sims career (and ruining it) came flooding back. Even Club Penguin made a comeback so you can really get all the nostalgia of being back in third grade, if you can't remember what club penguin is I highly advise you to laugh at these memes first.

14. Do absolutely nothing!

Lastly, the option we may all feel like doing...to do absolutely nothing. Don't feel like you have to suddenly get super fit, or become a kitchen whiz because everyone else is preaching about it, do what you feel like doing. For me it was a good few weeks of just watching movies before I even felt like doing something different. Do whatever makes you feel the best, and if that's staying in bed all day doing absolutely nothing hell yeah!

Love T, xx
