Billboard Awards 2019: All the big moments, winners & performances

Blink and you'd miss it! The 2019 Billboard Awards have come and gone, from large colourful performances to Game of Thrones references in winning speeches. Here are all the best moments from the night.

How can we not start the list off with Taylor Swifts first live performance since her dark reputation days. The performance with Brendan Urie (Front man to Panic at the Disco, not they he needs any introduction) mirrored their music video and a forthcoming for what's to come with Taylors new album. With lots of pastel colours, colourful confetti, sparkly outfits and flying people with umbrellas it was definitely an ode to the more poppy Taylor that we know.

Taylor & Brendon start the show off with lots of colour and fun.

Ariana Grande's music video come to life in her 7 Rings performance streamed from her Sweetener Tour. Decked in some really tall heels, her iconic pony and of course a pink car covered in graffiti (because why not). I appreciate it when a girl can dance, sing, and climb a car in boot heels that high!

The Jonas Brothers have officially reunited and all 00's kids are screaming. They performed a medley of songs including Joes band DNCE song Cake by the Ocean, Nicks single of Jealous, and their new single Sucker. The highlight of the performance most definitely had to be seeing all three partners to the brothers singing and dancing along, with Nick making everyone jealous as he kissed his wife Priyanka Chopra mid song. What makes this better? Knowing that hours after the awards show Joe and Sophie Turner tied the knot Vegas style, with an Elvis Presley look alike and everything! Honestly this could be the performance of the night!

Not all attention was on the performances though, with some winning artists using their speech time to call attention to some important issues. Imagine Dragons front singer Dan Reynolds, used his time to talk about an important LGBTQ+ issue, “I just want to take this moment to say that there are 34 States that have no laws banning conversion therapy. And on top of that, 58 percent of our LGBTQ population live in those states,” Reynolds said. “This can change, but it’s going to take all of us talking to our state legislators, pushing forward laws to protect our LBGTQ youth.”

After taking the stage to accept the Top 200 Billboard Award for his album Scorpion, Drake dropped an epic Game of Thrones reference, "Shoutout to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week,” the rapper said. This is of course referring to the latest GOT episode, and of course no spoilers here, just go watch the episode first. He also spoke about bettering the music industry, "I wanna encourage other artists to let others know how you feel about them. … Show somebody some love, tell somebody you love their music.”

The big award of the night though went to Mariah Carey for the Billboard Icon Award presented by Jennifer Hudson, she also performed a medley of some of her greatest hits ( I am yet to find a good quality video to link).

Taking it back to performances again we can't not mention the host Kelly Clarkson killing it with a medley of songs from Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant to Be” to Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up”.

Mega K-pop group BTS had the whole crowd screaming their names when they performed their new single Boy with Luv with Halsey. Halsey also delivered a powerful performance with her song Without Me. I apologise for the video links but unfortunately this is all I could find.

Madonna returned as a sexy pirate with holograms? I'm not sure about the outfit but her performance with Maluma definitely showed that Madonna can still kill it on stage.

BTS's winning speech was nothing but short of adorable with the group genuinely shocked they won:

Cardi B just being Cardi B, which is exactly why we all love her:

Other highlights from the awards included Bredon Urie's performance of Hey Look Ma, I Made It and his acceptance speech, with his parents in the crowd watching he literally said "look ma, I made it" to his parents as they cheered him on.

Along with many other performances the main talking point from the awards most definitely has to be Cardi B's ab. Girl is killing it!
