If you’re planning on your next trip overseas you need to make sure you have these must haves in your suitcase. This list has proven handy to me and I’ve added extras that I learnt I needed throughout my travels.
Some kind of lip balm:
This may seem like a no brainer, but trust me when I say you don’t want to be without it. No matter where you’re travelling, short or long distance, hot or cold climate, there’s nothing worse than chapped lips. I personally use the Lucas Papaw Ointment which is a purse staple for any Australian and many others, that and a tinted lip balm with added vitamins and oils to keep my lips nourished in all the different weather changes.
Face mist:
This is a lifesaver when going to a hot climate, a soothing cool refreshing mist will hydrate and cool you down and can be brought anywhere with you. I use the Mario Badescu Aloe, herbs and rosewater mist, it’s affordable and smells amazing. Another great alternative for my Aussies is the Australis make-up finishing spritz with Aloe Vera and Rose Water.
Wash bags:
Bring two small wash bags with you so that you can separate your clean from dirty laundry. This is great for all those travellers that won’t always have access to a washing machine and dryer everyday. You can find these everyone online, Amazon and Ebay have some great ones.
Extra credit card and hard case protector:
Travel cards are a safe alternative that way you only put in the amount you need, you can buy an extra card for an additional $10 so if anything happens to your first card you have a back up. This happened to me when my card was hacked as I used a dodgy ATM, luckily I had my spare card and cancelled my other one. The bank was able to get back any money that had been stolen and I was able to continue enjoying my trip. A hard case protector that is able to protect credit cards is also essential in ensuring no one can steal your credit card information.
Comfy walking shoes as well as a nice pair:
Try and limit the amount of shoes you bring, you’ll find yourself gravitating to the same few pairs anyway. Make sure you bring a really comfortable pair of shoes for when you know you’ll be walking around a lot and another pair for dinners, events and any special occasions (for when that prince invites you out for dinner). Another key is to make sure your shoes are able to be worn with most of your outfits as this will make it easier to limit the amount of shoes you bring.
Collapsible Water Bottle:
You’ll often get dry throats and dehydration when travelling a lot on planes, drinking plenty of water is key and having your own water bottle saves for buying and carrying around a big bottle of water everyday. Collapsible water bottles take up less room and you can save some extra cash by using safe tap water to drink from. This site rates the top 10 collapsible water bottles to save you time looking around.
Extra name tags:
It’s always handy to carry around a few extra name tags, you never know when you’ll be asked to check in your handbag, backpack or any other items when you go to certain places. By carrying these name tags you can easily identify your personal belongings. These name tags are beautiful but the ones from the airport are just as good for quick identification for your personal belongings.
Adapters and phone chargers:
Don’t forget adapters to bring to your destination, nothing worse than a dead phone or laptop because you can’t find the right charger. I forgot my phone charger adapter on day one and let me tell you it was hard. I had to Google numerous places just to find the right ones.
Bring an extra toothbrush in your handbag:
Airlines will most likely give you one with a mini toothpaste on certain flights but it’s always handy to carry a toothbrush to touch up after and before long flights.
Extra Tips:
Never, and I mean never leave your belongings unattended especially when travelling alone. Even if it’s just for a second, that’s all it takes for someone to quickly grab your purse, camera, or suitcase.
Keep cosmetics to a minimum. I know this is rich coming from a self-confessed makeup and skin product lover but it takes up unnecessary room and you don’t need 10 different moisturisers.
Keep all your valuables in hand luggage, its rare to lose your suitcase but just in case you’ll have all valuable on you and you’ll always have it close by until you check in.
Bring a book, magazine or some sort of entertainment to keep you occupied enough on long plane, boat, or train trips.
And remember facial wipes save the day; they are great for multi purpose situations and are the best quick refresher tools.
Also don't forget the snacks. A definite must have!
