I type this from the comfort of my warm cosy bed as I long for summer to come back, but for the rest of the world Summer is well and truly here. I'm lucky that I live in an area of Australia that stays moderately warm for most of the year but I still long for those balmy nights in Capri sitting back drinking wine on the terrace.
If you're about to go on a summer holiday/vacation/break from the kids/what ever you want to call it, chances are you're trying to figure out what to bring for clothing. First of all, I'm jealous. Second, despite what I and others may recommend bring what you feel comfortable in and just enjoy your time off.
Before you start packing double check on the weather of your location, thankfully we live in an age where you find out everything you need on the internet. There are some great weather apps and sites that give you real time and predications for the entire month. A great tip to keep in mind is what kind of holiday you are planning and what kind of activities and events you'll get up to. If you are planning more of an active holiday make sure to pack plenty of clothes and shoes that you'll be able to move around in easily.
Now for the inspiration.
Before I go to any festival, holiday, weekend away, I always do a quick Pinterest and google search for inspiration of what to wear. I also google my location and what to wear in say June and see what other bloggers and travellers have recommended from their time their.
Once I have that sorted I like to grab pieces from my wardrobe I know I'll definitely need and wear, from there I add other clothing I think I'll wear for certain activities. My favourite way to bring a lot of outfits but not actually bring that many clothes is to reuse a skirt and just put different tops, jackets and accessories to change the look.
If you're going somewhere beachy, make sure to double up on bathers, shorts and summer dresses. Most of your clothing should be breezy and easy to slip on over bathers. Bring a few strappy sandals, comfortable shoes and a wedge heel for dinners out and that should cover most outfits and events.
Or if you already know you'll be getting your sweat on, make sure to bring a couple pairs of tights, shorts, crop tops and sneakers so you can move comfortably around. As we now know thanks to so many great companies active wear doesn't have to be boring black and grey, why not trying out some fun funky prints to take to your summer location?
Or if you're holiday is taking you to more of a city location in the summer, you can still look refined and stay cool by adding some colour to your city wardrobe. Comfortable shoes in the city will be your lifesaver, make sure you have a few really good pairs of shoes that you can add with most outfits that will allow for plenty of city walking. I recommend a great pair of casual adidas sneakers to app up your street wear look and will make sure your feet are comfortable.
Now, for what I really like to wear on my holidays. I really enjoy wearing dresses, playsuits and co-ordinating sets because its less items of clothing to worry about and I still feel like I can get a lot of movement in them. I pair these with sandals and heels, my favourite shoe for a summer vacation would most definitely have to be a a strappy shoe with a thick heel as it keeps my feet elevated but the thick heel makes it a lot easier to walk around in. I usually bring about three different pairs of bathers, a good floppy hat, and just dress around the bathers by adding a mesh material dress or a slip on cami for the nights. Just simple items dressed up. My other lifesaver was a good pair of earrings, a slicked back bun and a bright tropical shade of lipstick to dress up just a plain black dress .
Overall I just wear what I feel comfortable in and will match the scenery, adding my own personal flair and touch to outfits by accessorising and getting some much needed sun.
Enjoy your trip and remember to relax (at least a little bit), and drink and eat to your hearts content.
