Anyone that knows me personally knows that I love changing up my hair colour all the time. Sometimes I just feel like a change to help with my mood or sometimes it's because I'm purely bored and I feel like mixing it up. I've been blonde, brunette, pink, dip-dyed blue, balayage, and I even had a shocking fringe back in the day. This brings me to the hair colour trend of the season...peach/orange.
You might've seen this hair colour on your Instagram feeds, Pinterest or Tik Tok. For me, it's having two younger sisters that are a lot more into the trends than me now, so I first saw my younger sister do it and then naturally I wanted it.
This hair trend includes a mixture of pink and orange tones to create the above colours, with my sister using an orange toner at the hair salon to get a very faint peach tint to her blonde hair. The great thing about being blonde is that you easily apply different hair colours to it or jump to a brighter colour without all the steps darker hair colours would need to do. The only problem is that orange can really stain blonde hair and it can be hard to go back to your original colour (and let's face it, all blondes will return to blonde eventually).
Enter my new favourite find: The DeLorenzo colour hair shampoo range. Now, normally when you choose a coloured shampoo it's to keep your current hair colour (either dyed or natural) fresh and vibrant. I saw a lot of people using this range though to semi dye their hair without the commitment of permanently dying their hair as if you stop using the shampoo your hair will go back to the original colour.
I first started with the coral peach shampoo making sure to section my hair as I apply it to make sure I could get the colour even. I then left it on for 15 minutes and washed it out before applying the colour care conditioner to put some moisture back in my hair. Finish with a deep conditioning mask and some oil for when your hair is damp or fully dry. This created a beautiful soft coral peach tone to my hair but nothing super noticeable that it would be a big colour change. Perfect for festivals or just a fun change-up with your hair that will last to your next wash.
Depending on how bright you want the colour to be will depend on how long you leave the shampoo in your hair. If you are looking for a softer pastel look just go for 5 minutes before washing it out. If you want the colour to be more noticeable I suggest leaving it in for 15 minutes and maybe a bit longer.
The colour also looks different in different types of lighting. In this photo, it looks pinker as this is broad daylight and in my video, it looks more orange toned as it was filmed at night with the flash on my phone.
But of course, after a week of this colour, I wanted to step it up to something brighter. Why not go copper I told myself? Or as close I could get with just a shampoo.
My inspiration was most definitely Madeline Petsch and closer to the darker orange tones:
Ok so easily enough the DeLorenzo range also has a copper shampoo, how convenient! I did the same again with sectioning my hair and left it on for about 10 minutes as this colour is a lot brighter. I also used this shampoo on my hair extensions and only left it in for a couple of minutes as hair extensions tend to grab hair differently and unfortunately for my hair extensions I will not be able to get them back to blonde, so I definitely needed to be sure this is what I wanted to do with them. Here are my results:
The extensions I have been using for a few years now are my trusty Kiki Clip in Hair Extensions. I kid you not these hair extensions hold up so well and retain colour extremely well. If you want to see how I apply them head to my Instagram video page for all my tutorials on clips ins and ponytails. One thing I have noticed with this copper shampoo though is that it will fade to a yellow if you don't keep using it regularly and it can be really hard to coat every bit of hair so my hair extensions had some colour patchiness going on. That was just how I applied it though, so I would recommend taking your time to really distribute it properly.
Kiki hair noticed my recent change and came to my rescue by colour matching my hair to their strawberry blonde range. Now I don't have to worry about dying my hair extensions aside from washing my own hair once a week with the shampoo to refresh the colour and I'm ready to go. The new hair extensions have added a lot more length and have made the overall colour softer and easier to manage. Shop them here.
So have I convinced you to go orange/peach/red/copper yet? There are so many different variants of this colour you're sure to find one to match your skin tone. Not sure, try using a chart like this to see what would look best with your complexion.
