Met Gala 2018 Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination
The most exciting and extravagant day in Fashion has yet again arrived.
It is hailed as “fashions biggest night out”, and for good reason.
Every major designer that is invited really gets to really show off his or her craftsmen skills. Each piece worn by the most sought out actors, musicians, models, and influential people.
This event is to celebrate the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” opening on May 10, 2018.
The Evening’s hosts: Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Rihanna, and Amal Clooney, with cochairs Christine and Stephen Schwarman.
There was some talk about the theme especially the ‘Catholic Imagination’ element in that it wasn’t inclusive for everyone that doesn’t believe or follow the Catholic Church. But this theme goes further than beliefs with artwork, fashion, and music all heavily influenced by the biblical readings and scriptures throughout time. This was clearly shown with the designers choices on the night as we can really see just how much the Catholic and biblical element really influenced fashion.
This year didn’t disappoint, and I wouldn’t be shy in saying that this year is definitely one of my favourites. With designers really going all out this year with the theme and actually staying very true to the nature of the theme.
Here are some of the highlights and my personal favourites from the night:
