How to fake that glowy flawless skin

Firstly I just want to address that you don't need makeup or a tan to feel or look like a boss. Wear whatever you like and want that makes you feel confident and most you. For me, I always feel a little bit more confident and myself with a summer tan and the appearance of clear skin.

We all wish we could have that J-Glo skin but let's be real...not all of us the capability to tan all day or risk the sun exposure for it. The same goes for flawless smooth skin, not all of us are blessed with supermodel squeaky clean skin.

In summer I tan quite easily thanks to my Ukrainian heritage, but in winter or those long months at work stuck inside I can lose that summer glow. That's why I use these simple tricks to fake a tanned complexion, especially for the face and neck that doesn't always get the same sun exposure that the rest of my body would.

Here are some of my holy grail products that I literally want buried with me:

I love using MineTan for the winter months or when I want to enhance my tan in summer that extra bit. I especially love this brand because they have so many different colours to choose from depending on your skin tone and undertones. As I'm more olive coloured I tend to go for something close to this as this will just enhance my natural colour like the violet base tan for an olive tan. My ultimate and personal favourite has to be the luxe foamed range as they give off this lovely golden tan rather than some oranges and green based tans you see with some brands. If I want a really deep tan I'll leave this on overnight and protect my sheets and wash it off in the morning, but in Summer I usually just put it on and leave it on for 2-3 hours and then wash it off so it looks natural and more like my real colour. If you're not sure which colour base you should get try the tan quiz on their website as they help you find exactly what will suit best.

Now this stuff is some crazy magic shit, because holy mother of dragons it works! I love to use this on my arms, legs and cheekbones at night time because it really enhances your tan and gives this gorgeous glow to your skin. If I know I'll be taking flash photos I like to prepare and put it on before hand because this stuff always takes my photos to the next level in terms of tan and glow. In the day time it can come across a bit too Edward Cullen that's why I love using it either for direct sunlight photos or going out at night.

Bronzers and Highlights:

Now for my favourite part of faking a tanned complexion. I love using bronzers and highlighters to achieve a certain level of glow. For me I don't like to do heavy contouring unless it's a night out, so I'll just stick to a nice brown colour for a bronzer. With this I just use it to give me some colour under my cheekbones, around my forehead, collarbone and sometimes as a eye shadow and under the bottom lip. I'm currently using the Two Faced Chocolate soleil bronzer that is vegan and smells like chocolate! My other favourite is the bronzer from the Becca X Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette in shade Malibu Soleil.

As for highlighters I love to use more golden hues in Summer as they reflect nicely with the sun and give a warmer glow to my face than a white highlighter would. At the moment it's still all about the Shimmering skin perfecter pressed highlighter in the shade champagne pop for a dramatic moment and then the Metallic Highlighter from Maybelline in shade 100 Molten Gold. I put this on the highest points of my cheekbones, tip of my nose, eyelids, collarbone and on my shoulders. With this combo of tan, bronzer and highlighter, you can be sure that you'll be looking like you just got back from the Mediterranean.

Faking Clear Skin:

For those that know me will know that I've battled with trouble skin ever skin Gr12, before that I always thought I was so lucky to never get breakouts but now I can't seem to get rid of them. For me now it's more just scarring and red pigmentation that's left over from it all and sometimes my skin will look great and other times it just won't. But that's life, it's not the end of the world, and I have some great tricks to hiding it when you don't feel like showing it.

For me I have a few steps that I take when doing my makeup in covering acne scaring and redness. Firstly I'll wash my face in the morning to cool in down and remove the oil that was produced overnight, then I'll spray my Mario Badescu spray (the one I always talk about in all my blogs), next is the step that is so crucial; I use a concealer that's close to my current skin shade (so a very light shade for my face) and make sure it's thicker than a liquid concealer. I recommend the Maybelline Cover Stick Waterproof concealer (there's a reason this product has been around since forever), and applying it on with a brush so it's evenly applied to all areas you want covered, then blend it all out with a foundation brush.

Next is foundation, many people think that because you have a lot to hide you need a full heavy thick coat of foundation to cover it. That's not true! Because you're putting concealer layers on it's important that your foundation covers but doesn't cake the rest of your face, making sure to blend down your neck so it matches with the rest of your body. I use the Fenty foundations as they are light enough it doesn't feel like foundation but like magic it covers everything! That, or the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless is always a good dupe when you don't want to pay $$$ for makeup. I'll say it once, and I'll probably say it again, "I love Maybelline, for a drugstore brand they just deliver in their colours and coverage".

Ok, moving on from my announcement of my love for Maybelline. Next is the liquid concealer stage, find a shade that matches your foundation and cover up any spots that still show through, blend in a dabbing motion then allow to absorb (again, I use the Maybelline concealers). If you want you can then go and add a lighter concealer for under the eyes and forehead for a bit of contouring action, I then set it all with a matte powder (Maybelline fit me in 220), and continue with my bronzer, blush and highlight.

For me this is my go to in helping me achieve a somewhat clear complexion without making it look too heavy in the makeup department. I highly advise on the days you don't need to see anyone or do anything important to just give your skin a breather as it probably just needs some hydration, good sleep and no makeup to irritate it (I wish I listened to my own advice sometimes with this).

Remember that you do whatever you need to do to feel most confident and most at ease, this is what works for me but if you have any other tips and tricks please feel free to send me a message so we can discuss all things skin and makeup.
